How are you involved in education?

  • I oversee the English department at my school, and I get the opportunity to present PD’s focused on literacy in all subject areas. I love technology integration in the classroom. When I’m working with teachers, I do my best to support their instruction with technology any way I can.

What does your ideal school or classroom look like?

  • My ideal classroom is one with continual collaboration, student driven inquiry into the subject area, technology tools to support learning, presentations from students to share their knowledge, and one where life-long learning is the goal for all.

  • Ways to incorporate literacy standards into all subject areas.

  • My ideal classroom is one where students can work at their own level and see the connections between what they’re doing and why it’s important.

  • Common assessments and sharing instructional ideas with others, even if you don’t teach the same thing.Also, running labs in a middle school science classroom.

  • I taught kindergarten for 10 years and have been an Ed Tech Coach for 6 years. 16 year….time flies!

What does your ideal school or classroom look like?

  • Ideal school would have full time media specialist, full time nurse, full time reading coach, full time ed tech coach, full time “tech fixer”, full time counselor, full time art teacher, full time music teacher, full time PE teacher. Teachers would have time to collaborate across grade levels and learn from each other. Lots of bright colors and movable furniture.

How are you involved in education?

  • In my ninth year of education, I am teaching Pre-AP English 2 and Creative Writing 1 and 2 at Deer Creek High School in Edmond. I am also a co-sponsor of student council. I am teacher consultant for the Oklahoma Writing Project, and I serve on the executive board of the Oklahoma Council of Teachers of English.

What does your ideal school or classroom look like?

  • Teachers are knowledgeable and passionate.
    Students are curious and motivated.
    Administrators are the lead learners of the school.
    Descriptive feedback replaces numeric grades.

If you were to lead a session at Edcamp, what would it be about?

  • Last year I spur-of-the-moment decided to lead a session on reading in the secondary classroom. This year it might be fun to explore strategies and websites to help students become better writers, especially at argument.

  • This year I am teaching special eduation at the 5th and 6th grade level. I am also teaching US Government and Oklahoma History at Clinton High School. Two evenings each week, I teach history at our GOLD Academy Alternative School.

  • In the ideal classroom, all students are engaged and learning.

How are you involved in education?

  • I was the technology mentor for the Oklahoma ArtScience Prize last year. I just started a non profit called HOPE for soap that works to bring bare essentials to victims of domestic violence. I am an Adjunct professor at MetroTech springlake as well as Platt college. I also am a digital manager for Barnes and Noble and have helped various schools to ontegrate NOOK devices into their classrooms.

What does your ideal school or classroom look like?

  • A class where learning, teaching, and understanding are not limited by technology or those using it. I believe that education and true learning are not always taught by the teacher, but should be a collaborative effort between teacher and student.

If you were to lead a session at Edcamp, what would it be about?

  • Integrating technology in the classroom. Discussion and Q&A about advantages and disadvantages of tablets, laptops, etc. open discussion about what is REALLY needed to fix our education system (and in my opinion it’s not more technology)
